Dining in New Orleans
Petunias817 St. Louis Street - NOLA 504.522.6440
Petunias is one of the most popular little restaurants in the French Quarter. Besides the interesting and delicious menu, this restaurant has an amazing history. Petunias is housed in a 3 story Creole townhouse erected in the 1830's by Barthelemy Bacas, a noted cabinet maker of the time. The interior is especially fascinating for his mastery of intricate details of the all-cypressmill work including the mantels surrounding the original coal burning fireplaces. The dining rooms are located in the building double parlor; the dividing, sliding doors are still operable. The ceiling fans are among the first installed in the city; made by Hunter, they have been in continuous operation for nearly 85 years.
The second floor now contains banquet facilities. Originally the family dining room, master bedroom and nursery were there. Older children's bedrooms were on the third floor.
Petunias is the best place for an elegant, yet casual meal. This restaurant is popular for breakfast and lunch. The menu features traditional New Orleans dishes along with a variety of other favorites.
